Tbh this is no small part of why I struggle to trust people’s self assessment of “the person I’m meanest to is myself.” In my personal experience, many of the people who (earnestly!) believe this about themselves are also capable of extraordinary cruelty to fat people, but they don’t see it.

All of the lessons that The Biggest Loser taught—from disordered eating to ruthless self talk—all of that came because we culturally thought it was beneficial & entertaining to abuse fat people. As folks are watching Fit For TV, the documentary about The Biggest Loser, a few reflection questions: How did The Biggest Loser teach you to think about people who are fatter than you? How did it teach you to treat them? Where have you unlearned those lessons? Where can you do more unlearning?

Want a great way to replace "narcissist" in your vocabulary? Egotist. Egocentric, selfish, self-absorbed, etc. Can someone with a personality disorder BE problematic? Sure, but they'd be a problem without a diagnosis too, and innocent folk who share a diag don't deserve to be thrown under the bus.

Pals, I know everyone is doing it, but you gotta stop deciding that because you don’t like someone that it’s okay to diagnose them with a personality disorder. Mental illness isn’t a sick burn or the ultimate way to dunk on someone. And when you treat it that way, you’re choosing to worsen stigma.
