Coming to ruin your day! Tapping into the millenial fears of 1500, Albrecht Dürer illustrates the Apocalypse in woodcuts. Here, the Four Horsemen: plague, war, famine, and death riding a pale horse.

I was annoyed that I couldn't find a database of David Attenborough documentaries where I could search for a specific episode by topic. So I made it.

New idea. Next time we publish a report on a politician, I’ll keep the politician’s name blanked out for a week, and let everyone take positions before they find out who it is.

As Sir David Attenborough turns 100 today, here's his memo from December 1966 as Controller of BBC2 to Dennis Scuse at Television Enterprises, turning down the idea that Terry Nation's planned colour Dalek series could find a home on his channel.

Oh I loved this. The first time I've read a real argument against the secret ballot too: in the days when few had the vote, at least doing it openly meant you were accountable to your community (although admittedly that could take the form of mob violence)

Did you know that, in 1991, Timmy Mallett, of Wacaday and "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" fame, tried explaining apartheid to children? He absolutely did. The real plot twist is... he did a pretty superb job of it. An exceptional job, in fact. They should have shown this in schools.

Worth remembering that the first announcement of a nuclear incident came 70 hours after the reactor exploded and even that was prompted by the Swedish authorities picking up increased radiation on workers *entering* a nuclear power plant and asking the Soviets what the hell they were up to.
