Reflecting on THE atlantic article. It’s a searing, enraging, heartbreaking piece but more than that - it should be comforting to good people, and scary for bad guys. I believe that we can protect our neighbors when the violence comes, and I know there are more of us than there are of them

This is just a caring reminder to all of those who have hyper-empathy. All this horror is really hard to bear. It’s okay to take time away from social media or the news, if it helps you regulate again. Your brain health is important.

You do not have to consume every single tiny piece of bad news in order to be a good person. It’s ok to miss things. Traumatizing yourself isn’t the same as activism. Bearing witness to the point that you’re paralyzed with fear and horror and fury isn’t going to help us get through this.

The time someone is *present* at an event is not the only time it consumes. There's preparation time, travel time, and recovery/processing time. For Autistic people, planning and recuperation can consume more time/energy. So don't assume your event is minimally disruptive for those obliged to attend

Govt: makes benefit systems impossibly difficult to work with and slashes all support to those trying to navigate them. Disabled people: try to help each other access the bare minimum of support. Media: “look at these scroungers pretending to be ill so they can live a life of luxury!”
