Statement from AsIAm in response to Autism misinformation by the US Government.

Paracetamol (Tylenol) does not cause autism, and it is a source of great dismay that autism researchers and Autistic advocates still have to spend so much time battling misinformation. Research on causes of autism systematically fails to control for the existence and behaviour of Autistic parents.

On Trump, autism and tylenol: A student I was talking to today had it exactly right on this latest White House bullshit claim “It’s at the perfect intersection of hating disabled people and wanting women to be in pain” There’s not only no link, the claim is both ableist and misogynist.

Autism existed before Tylenol. That’s all you need to know.

There is a growing push to make research data 'open' (i.e., not just stored by the original research team, for no one else to use). In our new study, we examined the views of autistic adults and parents of autistic children on this issue. Results suggest a cautious, nuanced approach is needed...

My comment about open research and qualitative methods is out! I argue that open research needs to take seriously the notion that "rigour" looks different for different methods and can learn from qualitative traditions. It feels very apt to be at #QMIP2025 for this publication day rdcu.be/evEpk

If 20% of employees in a large business needed adjustments that were different from and additional to those provided for everyone, wouldn’t it make sense to look at the overall working environment? Wouldn’t that be a more logical and cost-effective approach?

We are still waiting for an explanation of how the labour government will ensure that "those who want to work should be supported so that they can do so" while cutting the benefits that support disabled people to work.
