Two crossing guards in Ontario have been killed on the job in less than six months (and both since the Ford government emboldened motorists by removing speed safety cameras). There should be a public inquest or coroner's report. This is not acceptable.

This is the most-read story on Global News today. And the minister in charge of the FOI changes read it, too. After reading it, he said in part: “You’re suggesting we’re making a lot of changes. What are the changes then? There’s not a lot of changes."

It VERY convenient that the “private jet” scandal completely overshadowed Ford’s attempt to bypass the Freedom of Information Act which would exempt himself and his cabinet from releasing phone records. It’s almost like he bought a plane (to immediately resell it) to outrage the public on purpose 🤔

NEW: What considerations did Ontario's top civil servant make over return to the office? It's unclear. Critics say redactions to what we got via FOI pour cold water on the government's argument excluding cabinet from disclosure won't stifle transparency.

It's somehow very telling that the English language doesn't have an expression that fully translate the French expression "politique volontariste (de l'État)". It reflects how much policy-making in the anglosphere, especially in urban planning matters, is reactive rather than proactive.
