There are lots of reasons to compare what is happening now to Nazi Germany and there are also lots of reasons to compare what is happening now to the post-1850 Fugitive Slave Act U.S. and it's *weird* how people respond with interest to the former but total confusion to the latter

The fascist turn in this country doesnāt purely come from MAGA. Itās in the blue cities that purge the homeless. Itās in TERF politics. Itās in the belief in a āstrong borderā just with slightly more due process. Itās the disdain for red states full of disenfranchised people.

there is an implicit trust problem here; men often *say* (and perhaps even believe) that they will contribute equally, but even women who love them and might trust them on other things often tend (largely correctly) to believe that promise will not be kept.

raise pension ages, let more young people into your country, and see what happens in the next couple of decades because trendlines rarely go the direction you think forever. maybe we'll invent unimaginable technologies, such as exo-wombs or men contributing equally to childrearing.

when women can choose, they choose to have significantly fewer kids whether they're in Norway or Japan, and I'm not certain there's anything that counters that, no matter how generous the state is. Many women don't want to be mothers, and that's their right and should come first.
