This it. JJ made a pretty great looking film with a wondrous cast, but his decisions on storytelling and the setting were overall ruinous for the trilogy.

one of the things that makes the star wars prequels narratively and ideologically coherent and the sequels flounder completely is that the prequels understand the republic was always going to eat shit and it was its own fault while the sequels think it was fine and good, basically

Started watching Maul: Shadow Lord last night as Mr Kello wanted to check it out. Found the first episode pretty dull, TBH. Great animation, some laughs thanks to the droids, liked the Master-Padawan dynamic, but I honestly couldn't care less about the underworld stuff.

Finally caught up on For All Mankind season 5 and WHAT A SEASON. That finale was both tense and inspiring. Imagine what we could have accomplished if we focused money and talent on science instead of war and generative AI. And what an epic choice of song to end the season on. 😎

So, I'm hearing that "Mandalorian & Grogu" is bad, but is it "two robots are bought by a kid who happens to be the son of the bad guy who captured his own daughter who was the robots' owner but none of them are aware of this familial connection and also as a child he built one of the robots" bad?

1) The people who'd complain about that have likely never watched an Indiana Jones film or played Tomb Raider. It's part of the adventure. 2) A lot of Star Wars is built on conveniences to push the plot along. Attack of the Clones being a great example but they're all guilty.
