1. If the goal is to stop us from doing science, then doing science is more important than ever now. 2. We have radical uncertainty about the future. There is no sense in giving up in advance. 3. We have agency over the future. If you don't like what's happening, work to change what is happening.

when doing neuroscience projects I often advocate for computational modelling, followed by data analysis to test model's predictions. however a few times now I have had pushback from collaborators/reivewers suggesting it would be better to do the data analysis first, then the modelling. thoughts?

It is depressing that we (i.e. the scientific community) can't break out of this bizarro world where publishing in a $$$ Journal is considered a valid proxy for high impact science.

That merely being “under review” by a Nature family journal is offered as a quality proxy for a paper is a tragic illustration of the extent to which academia is addicted to brands and outsources evaluation

I have seen too many junior-to-mid career people making this mistake so I need to get this message out there: Once you get your first big award (R01, CAREER, standard NSF, BL2 DoD), your most important task is to publish papers that cite that grant for support.
