Bluesky is more boring than Twitter. Less of the artists and memes that I like, to be sure. There's just less people, which means less interactions, less reach, less energy. Comparing timelines is night and day. But I'd rather be here than dealing with allllll the bullshit over there.

Anyway, the fix was simple and cheap: removed the bracket, covered the grounding points with electrical tape, and used felt washers to electrically isolate the mounting bracket from the PC case. Noise is all gone. No, I'm not sure why it worked, but thank fuck that it did.

For some reason, having the sound card grounded to the PC case was causing it to receive noise from the GPU. Which is very, very weird. I'm less inclined to believe it's a sound card problem so much as GPU makers not considering audio noise in their grounding scheme.

I actually have an honest-to-god sound card in my computer, a Sound Blaster AE-5 Plus. Really nice, lots of features, good stuff. But it turns out the 3.5mm jacks on the back are grounded to the mounting bracket, the one that screws into your computer. That lead to the problem.

At this rate fucking RFK Jr is going to recommend corn flakes and Graham Crackers and warn about the dangers of masturbation causing blindness and hairy palms.
