a reminder that watergate was legitimately bad. nixon weaponized presidential power to cover up crimes committed by his subordinates, illegally spying on americans and using agencies like the IRS to harass political opponents.

For years, the anti-immigrant go-to line was that they were anti *illegal* immigration, because they believed in rule of law and had compassion for immigrants who "did it the right way." Now, from the White House and Supreme Court on down, it's openly anti-rule-of-law and anti-nonwhite-immigration.

On one level, I get the take that the Reflecting Pool saga is kind of frivolous. But it has also produced some of the most blatant examples of this administration and its allies trying to prosecute and persecute innocent people to make propaganda we have seen.

Today's SCOTUS decision means that the Trump administration may prematurely terminate TPS for Haiti, Syria, and any other country it wishes, without bothering to offer any legitimate justification or following the procedures required by Congress, because courts cannot review the decision.

is in TPS. For the usual 6-3 majority, Justice Alito holds that federal law forecloses judicial review of statutory challenges to the executive branch's termination of temporary protected status for Haiti, Syria, etc.:

The Supreme Court's fourth and final decision is Mullin v. Doe. By a 6–3 vote, the conservatives hold that federal law prohibits judicial review of non-constitutional objections to TPS terminations, and the constitutional claims here fail. The liberals dissent.

One of the modern Supreme Court's very unhealthy practices is that, in order to reach the outcome they want based on their partisanship and ideology, they pretend words mean whatever they want them to mean. Constitutional words need to mean what most of the American people think they mean.
