Give a child safety, and you give them room to reason. Give them security, and you give them freedom to think. Liberation begins with how we make space for our children.

David Duke wakes up every day and thanks his lucky stars, I'm sure. There's absolutely no difference, no daylight at all, between what he'd do in the WH and what the Trump administration is doing. Hell, they're probably being more ambitious than he'd ever dreamed.

Also, characterizing the suffering of my loved ones as virtue signaling is real garbage behavior. So, with all due respect and Merry Christmas and all of that, I'll most emphatically reiterate: you can fuck all the way off.

Your charitable efforts are commendable. Likewise, I volunteer 3x a week at a food bank. Unlike you, I possess the rudimentary empathetic & critical thinking skills required to act in the overall interests of those you're "helping" by, for starters, voting against the corrupt authoritarians, ffs.

Hide behind your half-baked electoral critiques all you want, but it won't change the fact that you don't give shit - at all- about your Black, trans, immigrant, pregnant, et al, neighbors who are now suffering needlessly under this cruel & corrupt regime.

Then advocate for election reform. Ranked Choice Voting in national elections could help end the two-party duopoly. In the meantime, helping to elect a felon, rapist, racist, fraudster, grifter, and aspiring despot to the White House ain’t it. And you know better. Grow the fuck up.

Far too many fundamentally misunderstand what voting is. It's not a form of personal moral expression; it's a large scale harm v benefit equation, & that takes certain sympathetic & critical thinking skills, of which there's a woeful dearth in this country. Dumb & mean. That's what we are, mostly.

Oh look, another libertarian who can’t do basic math or doesn’t understand the current two-party electoral paradigm. He doesn’t vote and thinks he and other nonvoters aren’t responsible for Trump’s reign of five-alarm fuckery. Anyone who didn’t vote for Harris absolutely shares the blame. Full stop.

NB: When I, a professor of law, profess that an act is unlawful, I am not doing it to inform the lawbreaker, but rather to inform you, the reader. So the question “what, like you think he cares?” is inapposite. The question is whether *you* care. I think you should, which is why I bother.

Lord knows, the world sure loves an origin story. Because of the repeating, cyclic nature of experience, we're really attached to that particular narrative - beginning, middle, end / coming, staying, going. Something comes, stays, and goes, but what precisely?

matt & co’s theory of how public opinion on immigration would respond to new information was simply empirically wrong. at this point the only reasonable conclusion is they refuse to update their priors w/ new data because the data is inconvenient for them

Are we in a recession? Perhaps. Maybe. Hard to tell. The Sahm Rule focuses on the 3-month average unemployment rate, and asking if it's risen half a point above its year-long low. The low was 4.0% in January. The latest (average of Sept & Nov, with Oct missing): 4.5%. That's +0.5%.
