rumors have been circulating about permanently closing mount edgecumbe and i can’t help but laugh at them mehs students/graduates go on to fulfill vital roles statewide in politics, tribal governance, business, natural resources, healthcare, fish camps, and more this school is not shutting down

Sen. Stedman, whose district is home to Mt. Edgecumbe High School, says that the trip was a little bit like the "cockroach theory," where the root cause of the problem is bigger and more complicated. "The best thing to do is kick the wall open and clean it up."

Rep. Himschoot says that school communities have the option of addressing their local school boards when upset with the leadership and handling of a school. Because it's state-run, Mt. Edgecumbe families don't have the a local school board to address, so the Legislature is stepping in here.

Lawmakers are making a trip to Sitka on Friday to visit Mt Edgecumbe HS, the state's largest boarding school, which has been in crisis since the fall. Over 100 students - ~25% - left over winter break, amid complaints of poor leadership, cuts to staff, coaches and activities, stress and low morale.

tonight, we learned that nearly 100 students have withdrawn from mount edgecumbe high school this year that’s 1/4 of the entire student body also, sitka tribe of alaska council just unanimously approved a resolution requesting alaska dept of ed create an ad-hoc committee on student safety at mehs

after learning of the mental health crisis happening at mt. edgecumbe high school, a bunch of us got together and invited students for a meal and crafts a local pizza spot, mean queen, donated food along with about a dozen community members we heard students missed their dogs so poppy came too!

gunalchéesh (thank you) to our city workers and neighbors out plowing the roads, driveways, and sidewalks! my aunt saw a side-by-side plowing the sidewalks by blatchley and asked me to pull into a driveway so she could give them some cash to get a warm coffee to show our appreciation
