even congress becomes an agent of the president, as its ability to exercise authority over the executive branch becomes a function of the executive’s willingness to be held accountable.

a thought about trump v. slaughter. it is largely unspoken, but the assertion that there is an unlimited presidential removal power and that independent agencies functionally cannot exist is an assertion of presidential sovereignty.

Gramps here, lecturing leftists who say the Dems can't change that in 56 it was aligned with Southern segregationists (who got the VP noms), but by 64 with MLK, because of successful social movement organizing. Take the party over, leftists. Else you're not actually involved in US politics.

I'm going to keep saying this in my effort to speak it into reality: Supreme Court should have at least 100 Justices with rotating panels (and maybe an en banc option). No single Justice should have so much power and they shouldn't be names everyone knows.

Rage posting like this is exactly why so many people on the left stay mad at Democrats. CA just passed Prop 50 to offset what TX is doing. VA is on deck to follow our lead. For the love of gawd...USE THE DAMN GOOGLE AND STOP BASHING DEMS! It's voter suppression.

Anyway, if you're surprised at all about the SCOTUS decision, remember - Bush v Gore chose the president on such nakedly partisan grounds they put in the opinion that it couldn't be used as future precedent - Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Alito & Barrett all served on W's election legal team

According to this Supreme Court: ❌ Using race conscious admissions in college to give minorities a fair shot ✅ Using race to profile people on the street to detain for immigration sweeps ✅ Using race to disenfranchise minorities in elecciones The only consistency is white supremacy.

The New Deal wasn’t built on a promise that there would be “no ceiling” for the richest Americans. Quite the opposite, in fact. FDR knew its politics could only work if he singled out the rich as villains and knew that its policies could only work if the rich paid their fair share in taxes.

I saw somebody comment earlier that Vance will be a less dangerous President and I don't agree. Trump is dangerous because he is erratic and unpredictable in his actions and reactions. Vance is an ideologue and actually believes some of the things he says. That is truly dangerous.

It was the first election I voted in, and that was a common attitude--so many people were just like, "I don't know." Neither choice excited people and no one could imagine America going off the rails. (I voted for Gore because it seemed obvious to me that Bush wanted to go to war with Iraq.)
