This visualization from Texty shows the routes of Iranian-made Shakhed kamikaze drones (in yellow), ballistic missiles (purple) & cruise missiles (red) that Russia used to attack Ukraine just last night. Russia continues to target Ukrainians all over the country almost nightly.

Eric Levitz makes a similar argument: leaders on the left have failed to condemn mass murder in ways that are morally and politically unwise. There is zero contradiction between condemning mass murder and condemning the occupation. Zero.

A Left That Refuses to Condemn Mass Murder Is Doomed
To advocate effectively on behalf of Palestinians, progressives must not forfeit their moral authority.

No, no. The slogan itself is garbage. It makes it impossible to connect with most politically inactive people who have never had a direct problem with cops (most normie Whites fyi). I like the policies behind it, but the slogan closes doors for casual outreach and conversation.

This is the worst US journalistic habit, keeping former titles. I once interviewed Bill Clinton more than a decade after his presidency and his staff told me about 4 times that I must address him as “Mr. President.” That contradicts a core principle of democracy, that representatives are citizens

I worked in state govt in MA for nearly 3 years, and my boss (a Democrat from WMass) used to yell from the rooftops that young people or anyone new to politics could have an outsized influence by being *elected* in local and state govt, but that everyone wants to go right to DC.

The shorter, punchier headline, "Robert F. Kennedy Jr. makes antisemitic covid remarks" has the added benefit of being more accurate. The fact that the Times wouldn't use it makes me think for the first time that he's got a shot at the nomination

Seventy-eight years ago today—at 5:29:45 AM (Mountain War Time)—about 35 miles SE of Socorro, New Mexico, the nuclear age began with a big bang. Contrary to popular belief, the area surrounding the remote Trinity test site was not uninhabited, and the fallout did not drift away harmlessly.

We ‘interviewed’ Harriet Tubman using AI. It got a little weird.
A new tool from Khan Academy lets students talk with simulations of Tubman, Winston Churchill, Genghis Khan and more. But there’s a limit.

this is critique digs because there is some truth to it. the more charitable phrasing is that Bluesky/atproto is designed to address Masnick's Impossibility Theorem: "Content moderation at scale is impossible to do well"

Open question for the community: Idealistically, how SHOULD this have worked? What is the right way for this app to respond when racism shows up? How can we do better? What tools and actions are missing? This keeps me up at night. Maybe my open source bones are getting old. I don’t have an answer.

Watching discussions elsewhere when someone suggests joining Bluesky, it's remarkable how much damage Jack's presence on the board does to Bluesky's brand, and how many people it turns off from trying the platform. Even those who know he doesn't outright own it often have no interest because of it.

It’s a weird own goal for various Mastodon admins who are running a decentralized social network based on interoperable protocols to pledge that they won’t interoperate with services from existing social networks if built on the same open protocols. It’s not even the hypocrisy, it’s just dumb.
