💯 One way I think about qual work is that surveys/experiments are increasingly under threat from major nuisance factors. And, even without those issues, “hard” attitudinal data on Latinos and other PoC is often meh because of design probs (eg, 300 Latinos in high-quality polls of Americans)

Been thinking about these trends in group favorability ratings from the ANES. Several interesting threads. For instance, the more positive evals of racial groups relative to others is interesting b/c racial group items have been self-administered since 2012. Hard to say much is social desirability.

FWIW, I don’t think the major problem in my field, or related ones, is that people need to move faster & produce more. I read a lot of papers as part of the job, and I’m increasingly convinced we’d benefit from fewer papers and better ones, not more mediocre work produced ever more “efficiently.”
