This week is Oakland Tech Week, and I've been loving the opportunity to connect with other technologists driven by the desire to leverage technical tools to the benefits of our communities, for empowerment rather than extraction.

As a software licensing nerd, shout-out to @brailleinstitute.bsky.social for the license on the Atkinson Hyperlegible font family. Not only are the terms and provisions super reasonable, it is SO easy to read stylistically. Really recommend checking it out!

Anybody have an app you like for bike directions in Oakland? Google Maps really desperately wants to send me up or down Broadway (which does not have protected lanes and is full of pot holes) instead of adjacent roads with bike infra, and I'm sick of just not trusting the directions

An unconscious fork limits us and keeps us from being able to expand into other spaces and reclaim our agency, even if we choose to keep carrying the fork. What forks do we choose? Do we accept the weight of them? Do we plan them and budget for them?

I love @civic.band 's non-municipal meetings as a local government nerd, because most city governments where I've lived have an email list they'll send summaries to, but those don't usually include commissions and almost-never multi-jurisdictional organizations like BART.
