Nearly one year after the GOP passed massive Medicaid cuts, nearly 5 million Americans have lost their coverage. As costs for health care, groceries, gas, and utilities keep rising, families can’t afford to lose any more. I won’t stop fighting to reverse these cuts and protect access to care.

Two powerful earthquakes in Venezuela earlier this week have devastated the country and affected millions. My heart breaks for the Venezuelan people as they begin the long road to recovery. The US is on the ground providing humanitarian aid, and we must make sure it reaches those in need.

11 years ago today, marriage equality became the law of the land. On Equality Day, we’re reminded of our nation’s promise of equal protection under the law. As we celebrate the progress we’ve made, we must remain committed to defending LGBTQ+ rights and building a more just, equal future for all.

This is deeply wrong. For years, the US has pushed back against the criminalization of LGBTQ+ people around the world. Now, the Trump Administration is supporting these efforts to strip basic human rights, putting vulnerable communities at risk and siding with our worst adversaries. (1/2)

Republicans voted to advance a Defense Appropriations bill that would hand the Pentagon a $1.5 TRILLION budget. I voted NO — and backed an amendment to cut millions from this bloated bill — because inflation is over 4%, our economy is shaky, and families are struggling to get by. (1/2)

The United States is shutting the door on people who are risking their lives to flee tyranny and persecution. Lady Liberty says "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free..." The principles that built this country cannot be abandoned.

Four years ago, Roe v. Wade was overturned—stripping millions of Americans of the right to choose. Today we honor everyone who has felt the impact of politicians standing between them & their health care. (1/2)

The President just walked away from our bipartisan affordable housing bill to push a voter suppression agenda. Families can’t afford homes. Builders can’t keep up. The housing crisis is real—but instead of acting, he’s choosing politics and power over people and a place to call home.

The President said, “It’s not possible for us to take care of Medicaid, Medicare… we have to take care of one thing: military protection.” The GOP seems to agree, which is why it approved another $70 billion blank check to ICE & now wants to ram through a record $1.5 trillion military budget. I had a wonderful time dropping by the Benjamin Rosenthal-Prince Street Older Center in Flushing and the Older Adult Center in Rego Park. It is always great visiting with our local seniors to hear their concerns and let them know how my office can assist them.

Attended Queens Community Board 3's Health Care Expo this afternoon. Lots of free screenings and community resources. I also thank Board 3 for having me at its board meeting earlier this year where I provided an update from Congress.

Thanks to the members of Community Board 11 for having me at their recent monthly meeting in Bayside. I appreciated discussing issues of concern and talking about my legislation and initiatives.

It’s almost a year since I helped secure a new accessibility ramp for the Jackson Heights Post Office and the community continues to benefit enormously from it. Pleased to partner with Council Member Shekar Krishnan and Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez to make this improvement a reality.

I am thrilled that plans for NaFFAA NY’s community center continue to move forward. A needs assessment report is expected to be launched this summer and I’m excited about progress being made. (1/2)

Good to meet with leaders in Jackson Heights to discuss ways to revitalize and strengthen the business corridor in the area. I’m working to secure federal funding to help with these efforts, which includes improved commercial lighting, streetscape revitalization and more. (1/2)

Joined the Waterfront Alliance for a resilience walking tour of Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The tour followed my securing of more than half a million dollars for the group to identify ways to combat flooding and address the challenges of climate change in the park. (1/2)

It was great to visit @Adhikaar at its office in Woodside. I toured the facility, met with the organization’s staff to discuss their services and observed some of its classes. I spoke with many of the students as well. (1/2)

I’m honored to deliver results for Queens. From students and immigrants to local youth and public housing residents, and so many more, I will continue bringing home federal money from Washington.

On Juneteenth, we honor the end of slavery in the United States and celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of Black Americans. As we reflect on this history, we must recommit to the ongoing work of building a more just and equal future for all.

ICYMI: I am continuing to call on the MTA to reopen the Elmhurst LIRR station that was shut down in the 1980s. The population of the area has skyrocketed since the facility was closed and we need the station restored to meet the growing needs of the community. (1/2)

I had a wonderful time at the New York Bangladesh Press Club’s recent inauguration ceremony in Woodside which welcomed its new officers. I thanked the group for its efforts and talked about the many initiatives I’ve been pushing on behalf of the Bangladeshi American community.

I was honored to meet with constituents with Refugee Council USA and Refugees International advocating for newcomer communities in the rich tapestry of Queens. Standing up for our values over rainbow cookies and the Knicks—it doesn’t get more New York than that.

So thrilled to have secured money to create a diaper bank that has greatly assisted families throughout Queens. No family in our communities should go without the essential supplies they need for their children.

The House GOP released their Pentagon budget for next year. It’s $1 trillion. With a T. The highest ever. After they slashed Medicare and Medicaid and are throwing over 300,000 New Yorkers off food assistance. (1/2)

In June, we wear orange for every community that has experienced the terror and tragedy of gun violence. Democrats won’t stop fighting for commonsense solutions—like background checks and safe storage laws—that take real steps to end the gun violence epidemic.

For years, I’ve pushed the MTA to make subway and LIRR stations in my district more accessible—and they’re delivering. We brought elevators to Flushing, Murray Hill, and Woodside stations, and I secured $7M for accessibility upgrades at Forest Hills.(1/2)

Just weeks ago, I pushed Secretary Rubio to rule out deporting people to conflict zones. Since then, we’ve learned ICE sent women who fled Afghanistan, Syria & even Iran to the Central African Republic—a conflict zone country. Days after the GOP gave ICE another $70 billion with no guardrails. (1/2)

The excitement continues in NYC the morning after the #Knicks won their first title in 53 years. It was great to celebrate in Queens last night. We are so proud of our new NBA champions. Go New York, go New York, go!
