Poverty is a political choice. Homelessness is a political choice. Suffering is often a political choice. People are much closer to becoming disabled/unhoused than they realize. Help us build networks of community care and better social supports.

And, a driver's license or passport is not necessary for enrollment. It just takes one extra step. Combatting this change for next year is going to require pre-election enrollment and get out the vote drives. #nzpol

The Fonterra PR piece on the news was quite illuminating. International pricing is 80% of the price. New Zealand makes up 5% of the market. So you could sell butter locally for cost price & profit would only drop 5%. So you could drop the local price by half with negligible profit hit. #nzpol

According to the electoral commission website, if you're 17 now you can fill out the enrolment form and be automatically enrolled on your 18th birthday. So they could even do it now.

Oh boy ... the headline change here (requiring people to have enrolled before advance voting starts in order to cast a valid vote) is a HUGE deal - from memory* something like 100,000 people in 2023 enrolled + voted on the same day. Guess which parties they overwhelmingly supported? * note caveat!

It's still possible to change your birth records without a court order or bottom surgery in NZ and I would recommend doing it ASAP! Neither your assigned sex or given name at birth are on your new birth certificate or on your records BDM have.

I was taught to only compliment something that you know was a choice made by the person. For example that colour is great on you, or I love your shoes, glasses, hairstyle etc. Things you don't know about i.e. bodies being thin/fat or how clothing fits that body etc. are off limits.
