It took a hot minute, but I can finally share my new paper on evidentiary pragmatism in transgender health care! In it, I propose a new principle for evaluating scientific evidence based on the best reasonably achievable evidence, avoiding the ‘catch-22’ where trans care can never be justified.

This same study, on suicidality and impact of hormonal care for trans youth, can be interpreted in two parallel ways - this is important to note when discussing the 'evidence' for trans youth healthcare. A short thread 1/

We can recognise that HRT has really important impacts on reduced suicidality for trans people who have suicidal thoughts - for 18% of trans people leading to very significant improvements. We can also avoid using impact on suicidality as our central justification.
