I’m really concerned about early career scientists using generative AI in writing, because writing is how we think and reflect. There’s almost nothing *more* human than that, and to give that gift away to a machine is almost unconscionable to me

You can do this right now: Think of a person who wrote a paper you love, whose work influenced or helped you, or has made your professional life better. Search up their email address. Shoot them a quick email of thanks. It means so, so much. This is a rough time of year, share some joy.

I'd love to see more news like this. Two societies with overlapping goals coming together to share challenges and opportunities. That's how progress happens. 🤩

I agree that Google Scholar is noticeably worse and less maintained than it used to be. Same goes for Google Maps, which feels like a 20 year old car that still mostly runs but has parts fall off of it all the time.

The fifth annual @sortee.bsky.social conference has just ended - what a fantastic 27 hours of open science discussion. A huge thanks to the conference committee and all who helped out with technical support. Absolutely honoured to be the president of such an engaging and welcoming society.
