In all of my years writing about crime fiction, the answer I give when somebody asks “what’s the difference between a mystery and a thriller?” is “whatever you decide.”

Being 8 months out from publication feels like waiting for a wave function to collapse. I love my next book with all my heart and I'm very proud of it, but I don't know whether the reasons I love it are reasons it'll do well, or the reasons why it won't. We'll find out!
