Four years ago I woke up at 5 am from distant explosions. I asked my boyfriend if he heard them too, he said he didn’t and I should go back to sleep. I tried to calm myself down, went on the internet, it was silent, no news or explanations.

For anyone who hasn't read the story yet, this is one of my favorite passages from it because this story was always as much about the brutality of classism and addiction as the moments of tenderness and understanding that help us feel human again.

A lot of the time that sort of stratagem is the solution to ‘this isn’t working’ in a book. It’s not the story itself that’s the problem, but your way of telling it.
