This is in response to the picture below and a story about Jamaicans embracing solar power. Jaqueline Hazelton is an adjunct in an international studies program at Stanford, which is terrifying.

And in the NYC election cycle, all we hear is how comparable it is to the national executive role, just at a smaller scale, but larger than many countries. No NYC mayor in my lifetime has left the job with an approval that merits being a Senator, let alone President.

Y'all remember the scene at the very end of Montell Jordan's "On Tonight" video where he's looking in the fridge and singing the song to himself, closes the fridge door and ol' girl is standing there staring him down? That def happened in "their" kitchen with "Wasn't Man Enough" today.

Anyway, these are some of my thoughts as a Black person who white people love to argue with. I've been asking white people to own their shit for literally over a decade. Despite everything else that might have shifted, the answer to that has remained a firm "no thanks".

It's actually a very hard sell when you think about it this way. Even white people who consider themselves pretty progressive don't actually wanna do these things. Sure they want to reduce harm in some ways. But not if it means they can't see themselves as automatically good.

For those folks, accepting Black people's view of the world would require them to: 1) Accept responsibility for the legacy of white supremacist harm. 2) Be accountable as part of the culture that continues to perpetuate that harm. 3) Stop doing self-serving things that harm Black people.

Those are just two of the reasons. Obviously there are a lot more that have to do with bigotry and such. But let's assume we're talking about the people who consider themselves to be on the right side of things. Those folks love to argue with Black people too.

Let me be less vague. For a certain type of person: 1) It's safer to argue with Black people than to actually confront white supremacy. 2) It's incredibly threatening to consider that the world might be how Black people say it is rather than what you've always been taught.

If America dies, her epitaph will read, "They wanted whiteness more than they wanted a country." No wonder so many of you still socialize with your GOP families and friends: you think they sort of have a point. You tell Black people to set race aside while clinging desperately to it yourselves.
