The administration is boxed into a corner right now and its entirely the result of the incredible discipline of the people in the streets. The Insurrection Act angle was always predicated on ICE brawling with the black bloc in street. Without that, it's worthless.

This is the sort of stuff I mean. Trump, Vance, Noem, all these people are surrounded by a podcast/Twitter media environment that insists that their only failure is not going harder, not killing enough, not deporting enough, not doing enough retribution.

A big part of this is the right wing podcaster/blue tick X feedback loop. Over in MAGAland, they're being pummelled for not being violent enough, vindictive enough. Bondi is panned as a weak sell-out. Their media environment tells them they'll be more popular if they go harder.

The NRA hasn't been a gun rights organization for decades. They have had two purposes: 1) Make a lot of money for the gun industry by convincing insecure men to collect expensive weapons. 2) Stoke right-wing paranoia for political gain. So of course they're taking this stance.

I feel like so much of what we're seeing is the endgame of stuff like referring to those with differing opinions as NPCs and declaring that empathy is a sin. The overarching message is that those you don't like don't actually count as people. And even if they did, caring about them would be wrong.
