One of the nicest things about An Academic Affair being out in so many places is the steady trickle of emails I keep getting - about one a week at the moment - from other academics who've read it and resonated with its depiction of academia.

It's when I have writer's block that I most appreciate I am also an editor.

Beginning to let myself read through some of the submissions we received now that the submission window has closed. I'm beyond excited for all the submissions and interest we received during this period. Thank YOU! I'm also pausing to realise I have some thoughts about "non-sexual" vs. "asexual".

Me: Let me remind myself were I was atthe last time I remembered to log in. Also me: Oof, a month already? On the upside! I have enjoyed some very good "rabbit hole time as a little treat", just as intended. I've sent off some submissions and have a tiny little bit of exciting news.

Ahhh this was such a good presentation that had me thinking of the Gothic, and in particular ghosts, in a completely different way!

I want people to really take their time and sit with what @wiswell.bsky.social is saying here b/c it seems simple, but it's not. I always remember the invisible pressure of "You're not a real writer until you" break into a big market, have one book out, etc. If you write, you are a writer.
