Thanks for bringing me into this conversation! I would add that Worlding as I use it is meant to be less egocentric and more humble. The Worlding can happen/is already happening without me/without humans, so we need to relate to the world with care.

I think I might set myself some prompts and free write the chapters as the zero draft… I do like the idea of silos, as @lpkindred.bsky.social mentioned. My brain likes containers for brain dumps, but avoids structure and over planning especially when I’m not making those plans. Haha

So often cis white male writers in our spaces attend with an extraction mindset, not a community mindset. They want to extract praise, attention, time, and energy from the people around them. They do not consider what they’re giving in return. Then they’re shocked when this limits their careers.

One of the diplomatic holds that Israel has struggled to break is African commitment to Palestinian liberation. African leaders happily take money from the Israeli government but only two countries on the entire continent have withheld recognition from the Palestinian state - Eritrea and Cameroon.

Talking to one of these types at a con who asked how I 'got in' with so many 'famous writers' who I'd been talking to and I said "we made friends before anyone knew who we were decades ago by striking up interesting conversations and enjoying each other's company" and he kept re-asking the question.

Y'all I legit cannot wait for this book. In the meantime, it's such an encouraging and inspiring conversation!

If their genius is not recognized after they come to the convention with their manuscript in hand, surely it must be because they are white and male. Couldn't be anything else. They will go and tell people this was their experience at the convention. They were excluded. Tale as old as time.

They have come to the convention hoping to "break in" and then find themselves -- shocker! -- a "nobody in the book world." Yeah no shit! We all are! I have gently told guys like this a million times that it takes most of us *years* of hard work but they do not believe that could be true for them. +

I'd believe this anecdote because I've met guys like this at conventions. People do ask (politely) about their work and they can't pitch it because what makes it special is that they are the specialest boy. They go to panels and hear queer and BIPOC writers talk about their work and think "ah ha". +
