Each morning brings new atrocities. I'm trying my hardest to not let it change me; to not become as bitter and hate-filled as they are. My heart goes out to everyone suffering real trauma. My deepest respect to everyone fighting for justice and equality each and every day.

The cover for THE OTHER SHORE, my short fiction collection, forthcoming in October from
@stelliform.press
. Kerry Pagdin's art is so familiar-- like the kinds of dreams I had as a kid reading (and re-reading) Watership Down. Which is, of course, the landscape of my heart, and these stories.

What if we didn’t focus on scaling our pedagogy so as to cram hundreds of students into each course taught by a single instructor. What if scaling meant taking much better care of more minds, not hurting so many of our students the way we currently do?

I was just told that I have to remove “climate” from the title of an ongoing grant if I want to keep it. And publications from that grant cannot include “climate” and other forbidden words. I can’t believe I’m writing this from the United States of America.

This one also has "Pathways of Desire" in it, which is snarky and sad and hilarious on what middle aged women become when the world no longer knows what to do with us. It's such a good story.

"Disrupt" is code for "Destroy reliable established services so that money previously widely distributed now funnels into a single source." Just like "AI" is code for "Mine the work humans did in the past so we don't have to pay them for their work in the future." That's why VCs like both words.

Your reminder that legislation to curb the rights of trans people to use restrooms or do anything else means everyone's behaviour, clothing etc will be opened up to intrusive and unwanted scrutiny and potential challenge in our daily lives. This is not a 'them' issue. Trans rights are human rights.

I remember people saying things like “you can’t fix an empty page” as an explanation for why writing a shitty first draft is better than no writing, but it’s not because it’s easier to edit than draft. It’s because the act of drafting tells you about the shape of the story.
