Not sure Carney's got this whole petropolitics thing down just yet. You don't want to announce your wholehearted embrace of oil and gas immediately before the season now known as "fire season" or your words will be echoing through people's heads while they wheeze through their morning dog walks.

I was born and raised in Northern Ontario and I am absolutely boiling with rage at the ways in which people elsewhere are talking about the forest fires there as though this is a common occurrence. The air thick with smoke for kilometers, entire communities wiped out - this shit is not normal.

I’m trying to push away the thought that, with strong public support right now for a government agenda that’s actively resisting (or at least betting against) a global shift away from fossil fuels, maybe we deserve this.

Same experience today, but now because of the smoke. Apologies for mentioning this, though, since worrying about climate change is a Trudeau-era fad that we’re supposed to have moved on from.

I’m always reluctant to directly attribute any one weather event to climate change. But Canada’s current fossil-fuel boosterism does hit a bit harder while considering whether we have to keep our 6-year-old home from the baseball camp he’s been excited about, because of potential record heat.

The AQI in Toronto this morning is 170-180, solidly in the Red “Unhealthy” range.
