My siblings have herb middle names, but my deadname did not. I loved mint as a name, but it felt nonbinary? Then I learned the plant was named after Minthe, the nymph beloved by Hades with powers of death and contraception, and I may not be they/them but I am she/her (nymph) and it/its (herb).

At the grocery store, a girl with a wolf cut and lesbian pride paraphernalia had a serious look on her face until she saw me walking down the same aisle, then her face lit up with a smile. I slow blinked, and she blinked back, happy. This is how the world should be as a trans girl.

I hate that point in recovery where I get depressed and anxious if I spend any energy, but I can't just do nothing when there's so much work to be done. So I end up making myself depressed and it's my own fault. (My spouse has been good about telling me just to recover. It's my own fault.)

Weird how when I see movies, TV series, books, or podcasts marked LGBT, there's never any T. But if it's marked LGBTQIA+, the chances are much more in my favor. Also fascinating is if I watch a lesbian romance, it pushes M/M at me. If I watch anything trans, it pushes extreme transphobia.

Someone asked what my dad thought of my transition, and it was such an odd question to ask an adult. He died young, at my age right now, in fact, and there's no way to know. I actually think it would've helped me come out sooner if he'd survived. He always encouraged curiosity and confidence.
