Just a reminder that when I got my current job, some of the fields in my HR account were pre-filled with "please refer to my CV", which I had written in the application form.

It’s wild we’re still talking about masks. I still mask up in grocery stores, elevators, public bathrooms, and public transit cuz I don’t like being sick and I don’t want to get my kid sick and it doesn’t have to be more complicated than not liking being sick. It’s weird anyone would question that.

Teaching evaluations are already so problematic and uninformative, can we please not make applicants "summarize" them? What do you want me to do, just pick the quotes that make me sound best? a bar chart of the meaningless ratings?

There's also a phenomenon akin to Gell-Mann amnesia happening with AI where people easily recognize it's hallucinations and errors when it's discussing a topic they know about but they assume it's magically correct when discussing a topic in which they have no expertise.

The Abundance movement often points to environmental groups as the obstacles to building. But who actually files the lawsuits blocking projects? It’s not environmental groups. It’s been lawyered-up HOAs protecting property values all along. Regulation by litigation is the problem.

Coming back to this, I'm still struck by the implication that academics should care if the AI pushers "trust" all our work that's done without AI. I don't know, man, you all seemed to trust our work enough to steal it from us wholesale.

The worst philosophy is nonsense that looks rigorous. At least when I publish the kind of nonsense I enjoy, everyone can tell immediately what it is.

When philosophers evaluate the capabilities of commercial AI systems, we should always consider the possibility that they're partly faked. The grift is so, so old.

The answer to Prior's disjunctive attempt to derive ought from is should be a) deny that disjunctions are either is or ought sentences, or b) claim that disjunctions are is or ought sentences, but not merely in virtue of their form, but depending on which disjunct is false. What's that called?
