The refunding od tariffs already paid is an administrative nightmare and would refund billions to companies that paid tariffs as their goods came in. The judgement could go to the Supreme Court but for the time being means the reconciliation package does not have an offset for tax cuts…

#EconSky: I need some data nerd insights re:CPI data. I've always treated CPI data as "month end" - i.e. March 2025 is "March 31". I just noticed the date for CPI data from FRED for the 1st (i.e. "March 1"). Is "March" data in FRED *actually* the Feb data? Or is it a forced-defaulting to the 1st?

For veterans of the Eurozone crisis, this is quite incredible - today Greece has a lower borrowing cost than both the UK and the US for their 10 year bonds. I had to check, all of the previous so called 'PIIGS' (Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Spain) have lower borrowing costs than the US today.

TL;DR: The new U.S. tariff rate against our two largest trading partners is either 10%, 25% or 35%, and so far no one I've reached out to at the White House is able to tell me which.
