Reading this as a former Uber Eats driver: Doesn't suprise me at all honestly. I remember one of the biggest advice in those subreddits is to reject every 5 dollar and under orders not only because they suck but the algo will just give you more of that. And uber was really one of the worst ones-

This explains the cases where when I delivered for [MAJOR FOOD DELIVERY APP] why my pays started getting fucked up. They were about the same comparatively with distance + time, tips only being the ranging factor. Then a $2 base pay with a $15 tip and a $10 pay with a $2 tip for the same distance.

Any delivery driver could tell you this. We aren't stupid we can see it happening to us too. When I work more hours per week the orders get progressively worse until I'm getting $2 orders that take 45 minutes with no ability to refuse them bc I've refused too many exactly like it in the past hour

This is all true and all of us drivers know it. They will also purposely use your bigger tip to, for example, dispatch your order to a Wendy's 8 miles from you, and then punish the driver for declining that order that was bad for all parties involved.

i'm so glad someone blew the whistle on this. i get suggested to do doordash as an income stream and while it is money, the more i did it the more diminishing i found my returns to be. the fees you get barely cover gas and they don't tell you your tips for like almost a week after the delivery.

on a related note, did you know that scheduling a ride on a rideshare app is fake? we scheduled one for an early morning flight one time and the driver told us the app doesn't actually schedule anything ahead of time. it just puts out a ride request to current drivers and overcharges the user lol

People in the reposts are saying to tip in cash instead of online. While nice, as a driver, if I see an order with no/insufficient pay, I don't accept it. Mainly cause the people who don't tip online also won't tip in cash, and I can't bank my paycheck on the hope that *maybe* this person will tip

I thought we all knew that if it says “fee” that means “added profit for the company,” but this is a good chance to share AB 578 which just took effect in California, requiring food delivery platform fee transparency & prohibiting platforms from retaining any portion of tips.

Really dislike the way these companies operate. Glad Mario’s doesn’t use them, because tips can be my lifeblood.
