My neighbor across the street MURDERED a perfectly healthy 50+ year old sweet gum tree. Sure it was a pain in the ass cleaning up all those spiky balls but it was a healthy old growth shade tree and his dad (died 2 yrs ago) never reported any root problems. MURDERED. I grieve the tree (& his dad.)
