Interesting to see a far right polician wanting us to say "differently abled". In my experience this (terrible) suggestion has always previously come from a certain kind of liberal. Some kind of new ideological convergence seems to be occurring here.

The decades long bipartisan consensus around disability rights – limited and conflicted as it was – is gone. That doesn’t mean it can’t come back. But right now it’s gone.

This has begun to change and not for the better. Trump‘s overt hatred for disabled people forces Republicans to reject him, which they mostly don’t do, ignore him, which is hard, or follow him into his hatred.

Disabled people do not owe you their medical history. They do not owe you their diagnosis. They do not owe you an explanation. Benefits are exceedingly hard to get and the process is punishing & dehumanizing. No one is doing it for fun.

Meltdown recovery isn’t quick. A meltdown isn’t losing your temper; it’s a full neurological overload where the brain goes straight into fight or flight and everything shuts down. It takes a huge amount of energy, and the recovery can last hours, days, or even a week. 1/5

I have such a gripe with the idea of making disabled and/or ND people wear a symbol to communicate they are different to people outside the group. Intracommunity symbols are one thing; this is different. If you can't treat me decently without a big sign saying I'm autistic, you're just a shit head.

People saying and doing horrible things doesn’t mean they have a mental illness. It doesn’t mean they “lack intelligence”. It doesn’t mean they have a disability. It means they are saying and doing horrible things. Conflating that with disabilities is ableism.

The Neuronormativr world is all about… Productivity as morality. Compliance as maturity. Shame as motivation. We need a better model folx

Something i didn't have time to say is: the standard liberal neurodiversity response of *actually theyre underdiagnosed, the increase is just us getting better at recognising neurodivergence, etc.* is a dead end here as it precisely depoliticises the issue and reifies and essentialises diagnosis.
