It's the death of irony that the elected and appointed members of our government responsible for this have spent the day playing Pastor-in-Chief. Preach to the mirror. I don't ever want to hear a lecture on salvation from any of these people.

That's something that most Americans do not realize - the extent to which the world will move on without us and we will be left behind. The idea of us not being on top (even though we are already not on top by many, many metrics) is incomprehensible.

I'm leaving the country this week for the Global Math Summit, and in the pre-conference chatter it's wild to hear educators from other countries talk about their life & work in normal ways that aren't subsumed by existential crises. A point people often miss is the role of *physical experiences* in learning, and again this is where 'learning = memory' falls down. I can know all the words in the world but if I'm too shy to use them it's solely an academic exercise. Learning is embodied. Confidence is a transferable skill!

Music teacher here: cracked this book open for the first time this morning. I’ve been talking a lot with colleagues outside the arts about Sarah Fine’s work re: peripheral spaces/engagement - it appears to be turning some heads! Hoping for some overlap in this book.

As the parent of a 5th grader who last year described school as a "jail", I've never seen her more engaged and excited about school than after she brought home her baritone for the first time. She looks forward to band (2x/week) more than anything else, and constantly practices at home unprompted.

What Community Resilience & Stewardship is and it not: It is not students tattling, policing other students, and a lack of boundaries. In fact, it is characterized by understanding & empathy, rooted in grace & assuming positive intent, and setting healthy boundaries (peer-peer & teacher-student).
