I don't think there are a lot of ideological Americans who voted for fascism & authoritarianism (even if that's what we end up with). We have Americans who want to feel like winners by wielding power, even if it's by transitive property: Trump empowers them & gives them permission to be the bully.

If this ends up being the gendered election it was being framed as in the closing days, we're going to have a Real Bad Time with young men feeling entitled to their perceived power fantasy mandate. How do we break through that?

It would've been reckless and inexcusable to cause generational damage by illegally defunding USAID, NIH, HHS, Dept of Edu, and so on just to reduce the deficit... ... but spending and the deficit are both higher than '22, '23, '24. It was all just harm for harm's sake. The cruelty was the point.

A 6th grade team we're working with is planning an upcoming unit around Tasty: A History of Yummy Experiments, and it goes surprisingly hard. A very cool and insightful blend of science and the humanities that has kids reflecting on food cultures while participating in food labs!

Another layer to this: I was talking to a HS teacher who said one of the biggest challenges for 9th graders tends to be the tech learning curve — if their middle school didn’t use the exact platforms the high school uses, it’s rough. The insularity even *between* school contexts can be problematic.
