Happy 54th birthday to one of my all time favourite actors Walton Goggins. I’ve been a fan since I first saw him in The Shield, and make a point of watching all his projects. He has that ability to make whatever he’s in better no matter what the role is. This is one of my favourite guest spots.

On this day in 1997, The Sweet Hereafter, directed by Atom Egoyan, premiered in Canada. One of the greatest Canadian films ever made, it won the Grand Prix at Cannes, seven Genie Awards and earned two Academy Award nominations for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

On this day in 1908, Charles Merritt was born in Vancouver. During the Dieppe Raid in 1942, his bravery earned him the Victoria Cross. He was captured and sent to a POW camp. In June 1943, he escaped with 64 others. He was recaptured but survived the war. He died in 2000.

On this day in 1941, Carrie Derick died. Born in 1862 in Clarenceville, Canada East (Quebec), she was the first woman professor of a Canadian university. A leading geneticist and botanist, she also founded McGill University's genetics department.

50 years ago today, Nov. 10, 1975, the Edmund Fitzgerald sank beneath the waves of Lake Superior during a massive storm. The sinking took the lives of all 29 men on the ship, and became immortalized in Gordon Lightfoot's song. This is the story of this terrible tragedy. 🧵1/20
