I interviewed an expert on what's happening with connectivity in Iran: The longest blackout in Iran's history. Thousands dead. Documentation of war crimes dependent on Starlink. A regime that uses AI's ubiquity to undermine the credibility of evidence.

I made a tool that makes retro anime sound effects. Meet AnimeVox! I made it for a game, but it's free to use. I'm using the forgotten (but popular in 80s japan) Schroeder reverb algo, and some wobble. If you find it useful consider supporting me on itch :)

Someone posted one of these Frank King Gasoline Alley originals on ig the other day and I was moved to look up more. These are from 1925, 1926 and then one from 1951. These blew my mind. I guess doing a Gasoline Alley deep dive this winter.

You don't need to be able to read every pore and eyelash on a character's face for "good" graphics. You need good art direction and design. Those are what ensure your game still looks striking and memorable even decades later.

My fondest wish is that somehow we realize that private prisons don't "bring jobs" but trains ABSOLUTELY do, and there's another political pork gold rush that results in all kinds of little Louisville-Cincinnati-Lexington-Frankfort type pork projects and suddenly there's trains EVERYWHERE! 🤩🥹🤩🥹🤩

OpenAI will, starting in 2028, have to start paying $30bn a year to Oracle, $28bn to Microsoft for Azure, and also $2.9bn to CoreWeave for compute. That’s $60.9 billion *in compute costs alone*. This company is an absolute joke and should be treated as such.

Living in chilly Minneapolis requires 3.5% more energy for climate control (indoor heating and cooling) than living in sweltering Miami, per this research work. I suspect this goes against a LOT of people's conventional wisdom about climate and sustainability.

Another thing I can’t get over about the Democratic establishment’s backing of Andrew Cuomo in the New York mayoral race is how much hostility they’ve shown to Zohran Mamdani, an extremely gifted young campaigner whose energy and charisma the party sorely needs.
