"You don't build, we're not gonna fund" is exactly the right response when it comes to recalcitrant cities that refuse to follow and implement state housing law. Restricting their funding is the only way to actually bring them to heel. Kudos to @governor.ca.gov for setting the tone on this.

Easily the most bizarre thing I’ve ever seen a transit agency do.

In January, Sacramento's Planning & Design Commission approved a CUP for a Raising Cane's drive-thru in Natomas right next to a planned light rail station. This was in direct conflict with SacRT's AND the City's TOD ordinances. The crazy part: SacRT submitted a letter supporting the drive-thru.

me: building more housing near transit is good because it makes housing more affordable and reduces car ownership the Sierra club, for some reason: actually this is horrible and must be stopped at all costs.

There's a lot to like in this expenditure plan. Rapid transit lines, late-night routes to job & entertainment hubs, housing incentives, better airport transpo. I hope it qualifies for the ballot!

Sounds even better than the “add it to the paving measure” that has been done in Oakland and elsewhere. Very eager to see this succeed!

Hopefully Sacramento folks pass this measure. A similar one has been on our Yuba City ballot the past two years, and failed both times. Messaging needs to reflect improving city services and de-emphasize raising taxes.

Today, something happened in the City of Sacramento. The beginning of something exciting. Language was filed with the city for a ballot measure to raise sales tax 0.5% to fund safe streets and transit infrastructure. It's gonna take everyone to get this passed, but together, I think we can do it. 🚲🚌

The clear winner of today’s @cayimby.bsky.social gubernatorial forum was the YIMBY movement itself. That every major candidate showed up, cited a lack of supply as the primary driver of the housing crisis, & offered actual policy solutions is a true testament of how strong the movement has become.

Still gobsmacked by this Sacramento Planning Commission meeting. 300 unit project. Tons of public support. Commissioners said state law required them to approve, but that they’d support it regardless. All agreed they’d prefer less parking. 10-0 vote to support. Done in 2 hours. Magical.
