ICE killing
#AlexPretti
should remind you of police killing
#PhilandoCastille
. Both men had concealed weapon permits, did not draw their guns, & were killed in Minn. These homicides are the price of unaccountable policing. These deaths are variations on the same fatal theme.

Do you honestly think people in the civil rights movement and other nonviolent movements faced no violence themselves? They practiced nonviolence because it works, because the oppressor wants a shooting war, which is the war it will win

Good morning. I'd like to invite anyone who is interested to make a small gesture of kindness today. It's up to you to decide what that can be. The key is for you to act on the idea. With so much out of our control, we can choose how to be with each other today and every day.

After the Civil War, the government realized that in order to resist oligarchy, you needed an educated populace. The slave south was essentially an oligarchy with a powerful & wealthy planter class, an uneducated poor white class, and an enslaved class. The war against education is no accident

ANYWAY Buy from small businesses Buy from independent creators Buy passion projects Buy commissions Buy art In a society that's decided that money is final word, be aware of where yours goes and to support what Yes it sucks, I don't like it either, but pretending it's not a thing does not help!

Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.

With Thanksgiving and all of the various commercial shopping days coming up, particularly Giving Tuesday next week, I want to remind folks that giving money directly to ppl who need it is the most effective way to help them. Same with local grassroots orgs that are doing good work in your community.

If you're planning on shopping during black Friday or cyber Monday, why not consider supporting artists, writers, creators? Buy a book, purchase an indie video game, commission an art piece, gift someone a Patreon. Your support means everything.

Major sources of hate speech are located outside the US. Well yeah, we have this conversation every few months. And every few months people reject the bright shiny evidence that easiest way to ruin America is to feed the hate and bigotry that already exists here.

What did people do before SNAP?” They died. Healthcare, vaccines, disability support, education & food assistance are vital to our survival. They’re why the average lifespan isn’t 35 anymore The mark of a good & decent society is whether it sees the value in helping others.

You know who the real freeloaders in this country are? Not people who rely on SNAP, but corporations whose business model depends on wages so low that taxpayers have to feed their workers.

If you have it please donate cash to the food banks. $10 in their hands will feed more people than the $10 worth of canned goods you can buy for retail prices. Also check on your elders. Many of them will not admit they rely on these programs so grocery gift cards or a surprise bag of staples

You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes. Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.
