I find that there’s usually a direct line between people who habitually post unattributed artwork and AI boosterism. Like, if they already act like images just appear out of the ether and have no provenance, they’re also very likely already openly hostile to artists.

Seeing illustrators post their Harry Potter stuff, or still do work for places like the NYT is maddening. At this point you have to be obtuse or just a turd to take these jobs.

I prefer bsky to insta because bsky incentivizes chatting with people and reading and interacting with posts. Insta just feels like TV channel-surfing, a constant stream of videos that passively play at me whether I want them to or not.

When people hear that I'm returning to part time work they often ask "are things not going well with your art?" The problem really is things are going well, but the world is so unstable that I long for some consistency and income that I don't have to pay quarterly taxes on

I had various part-time jobs from when I graduated in 2013 until 2017 when I got pushed out of my barista job and decided to be a full time illustrator for a bit. I was low income but ok and my wife had savings that helped, but a book went very badly awry recently so I got a part-time job again.
