It's a real treat when you "discover" work that had somehow escaped notice or were neglected in the collections that tend to veer toward the mainstream (still functioning) publishers. These Indy anthologies are wonderful foraging ground. I found small treasures from BWS, J Jones, Bolton, Hampton!

This is such an excellent piece. Note the essential narrative, the placement of action within a moment in a *real* place seconds before impact. (Staz is good at this). The triangular composition of the shapes drawing your eye, along with leaping Grendel, toward the center at Hellboy's gun. 1/

This is the second most interesting post I've seen this week!

Comics is MORE than film or books. Neither pictures with words, nor words with pictures - but a whole seperate medium entirely. The sequential juxtaposition of graphical elements is an intense and efficient way to put concepts into a readers mind. And too many comics today don't understand this.

Jack Kirby, with Chic Stone, tells a tale about Jack Ruby’s murder of Lee Harvey Oswald, from May 1967’s Esquire magazine. I had no idea at all “46 Hours & 36 Minutes In The Life Of Jack Ruby” existed. It’s amazing what you can turn up while trawling through old archives.

There is so much about this book I love. Skeeter, Adam's chonky Superman and Bats, both characters way out of their normal environment, reckless levels of background detail, the wicked vampire design, and on and on...
