Rewatched Master and Commander. One of my favourite Star Trek films ever.

From Redcoat issue 2. The Gilded Age ball in Benedict Arnold's mansion in NYC. As much as it may look like it, panel 2 was not the hardest or most time consuming part of this, panel 1 was. Took a long time to work out those horse and carriages!

Wip. Funzies.

One has a very odd sense of ones' own work. Everyone else's seems to look like proper comics and have instantly recognisable styles but whilst I do feel pretty sure I'm good at what I do, it never feels like it's REAL comics like the art that influenced me and it certainly never looks recognisable.

My desk is a complete mess.

starting work next week on Redcoat issue 15, the start of the 1909 arc (six issues or so). This one is going to be a real challenge but one we've been working towards since issue 1.

One of my sons is a qualified mixologist (wants bar work at uni). And he's damn good. Tonight, a vesper martini. (I had to fully stock the bar for him but achieved peak parenting I feel).

the 31 page RC 13 hits stores today. Wraps up the Northerner storyline (well, introduction).

Redcoat 14 is 31 pages which I've pencilled in about 18 working days (don't work weekends). No late nights either. Pretty pleased with that. One of my favourite issues too.

There's nothing as exciting as a blank sheet of paper! Full of possibilities and adventures to come.

Saw superman.

Binged Picard while drawing the last few days and whilst seasons 1 and 2 held up a bit better in full rather than weekly than I remembered and all three work well as a whole, Season three is a tour de force and some of the best Trek ever made. Simply brilliant.

Some days I actually feel like I might know what I'm doing...

Redcoat 13 and 14 both clocked in at 31 pages. so combined slightly more than three issues of a Marvel or DC book. Still $3.99 with great quality paper and heavy stock covers.

Somebody asked about my process and how I 'got good' I said it's always the same, a bowl of Secret Ingredient Soup every day. I don't think I was wholly understood.

On a side note, my dog is farty beyond reason. Here I sit, nightcapping with a glass of the Benriach 12 and she's making it seem like i have a glass of malodorous effluvium.

Redcoat is going to be by far the longest run I do an anything. Whilst I'll be writing and drawing several other projects alongside it over the next years, a decade or so on the mostly monthly adventures of Simon Pure will be epic. On my desk today, inking the front and back plates for the second Redcoat collection. These first two volumes will also form the deluxe Hardcover

Still toying with the idea of getting a good screen tablet thingy to access digital tools better. (Not abandoning trad work at all) but after a bit of research I'm starting to think Huion might be a better option to Wacom. Looking at the 27 & 24 pro.

If you haven't and you love stuff like John Powell, Thomas Bergersen etc try Marcus Warner. Some absolutely banging stuff. Has a good YouTube channel too.

Sometimes a page just has to move things along in a 'fit for purpose' way to get you for one place in the story to another. Can't all be WOW images.
