It's the same with Manga. Everyone uses Manga as a shorthand for the epic four-volume autobiography and history of WWII SHOWA: A HISTORY OF JAPAN by the genius Shigeru Mizuki. It is a shock to many that Japan does action-adventure manga too, not exclusively intense political historicals.
