Today, I'm handing out SKTCHD AWRDS to 25 of my favorite Comics of 2025, ranging from @beetlemoses.bsky.social and Hirayasumi to Lil' Burgers and Good Devils: Don't Play Fair with Evil. This piece is open to non-subscribers.

This week on Off Panel, my pal Brandon Burpee returns to the show to look back on the year in comics and to count down our 20 favorite comics, graphic novels, and beyond of the year.

I wrote so many words about my Comics of 2025, as I handed out SKTCHD AWRDS to an eclectic collection of comics that included comics, graphic novels, manga, digital-only releases, a comic strip, and more. It was a great year for comics, and this was a fun group to write about.

Today was my bi-annual office cleanup day, or, for @wyattwritesthings.bsky.social, “What’s David Watching Day?” Things are looking good. Just don’t look immediately outside my office. (I am also officially out of room for trade paperbacks, graphic novels, and zines)

This giant Absolute Batman ad in the Paris Metro totally rules. I love seeing comics promoted like this, and Urban Comics remains very good at what they do. Thanks to Felix Lu for letting me share this, because it rocks.

Shouts to Will Byers, who largely was given little to do in the first four seasons of Stranger Things (outside driving plot) but is making up for lost time very quickly in season five. He might be the MVP of the first four episodes of the final season even? And he and Robin might be its best combo??

This kid in Stranger Things Season Five is a wild child. Everything he says is electrically mean. I can’t stand him but I love him.

I’m at Barnes & Noble and just noticed that every book says, “A Novel” on it. When did this become a thing??? Evidently the answer is “a long time ago,” but it’s strange that this needs to be specified to this degree! I reject this!

If you're writing and want to do so at an almost preposterously efficient rate, I highly recommend listening to Ryo Fukui, but particularly this track. So good.

I just want to emphasize that whoever at DC decided that @ryannorth.ca and @gavinguidry.bsky.social should be the team on The Flash deserves a massive raise.

We as a society need to put more respect on Spy’s name as an elite comedy, particularly Jason Statham’s performance as Rick Ford. He truly reaches Peak Statham levels throughout.
