The Spirit daily strip was obviously more limited in terms of format but Eisner still found opportunities to experiment, like in this strip where middle panels lose their borders and the art becomes more surreal.

I'd heard that Jack Cole did the daily Spirit strip for a stretch and I wondered if I'd be able to spot his art or if he'd altered his style to ape Eisner. I think I was able to tell.

I've been enjoying the earlier Spirit stories. They're different from the later work that I'm more familiar with in that they're more standard fare but so well done that they're elevated compared to similar material from the era.
