the thing is... puberty blockers aren't what trans kids want. they're the compromise we settled on so that the kids can delay puberty until they are able to consent to getting the hormones they want.

Banning puberty blockers for trans kids but still allowing them for cis kids feels very much like discriminating against a set of patients based on their protected characteristic.

The end of Assad’s dictatorship is a positive and long-awaited development. It also shows the weakness of Assad’s backers, Russia and Iran. Our priority is to ensure security in the region. I will work with all the constructive partners, in Syria and in the region.

Today I’m thinking of tiny Alan Kurdi, the thousands of other Syrians who lost their lives fleeing Assad, and the millions who stayed - displaced, terrorised and murdered. We must support Syrians to rebuild from their trauma, and never let Iran and Russia rear their heads in Syria ever again.

After 13 years of conflict, the Syrian Civil War ends in a decisive defeat for Assad, Iran, Hezbollah and Russia.

A bad day for Russia and Iran this morning. The Biden administration silent, so far. Celebrations across Syria. But huge uncertainty about what happens next. Spectrum of possibilities runs through from democratic and fair elections through to further conflict or a new, oppressive Islamist regime.

Rebel forces have met with almost no resistance. The only shots in Damascus have been celebratory. Chants in the city of “Assad is gone! Syria is free.” Syrian refugees in Lebanon already trying to get back into the country.
