5 yrs ago next Tuesday, an American president who lost an election but refused to accept the loss incited a violent attempt to overthrow the election. Instead of being treated like a pariah, that president was actually voted back into the White House, a much bigger condemnation of us than him.

My column this week. Tommy Tuberville has repeatedly shown contempt for vast swathes of the state he wants to govern. And Alabama voters can’t dismiss his recent threats against Muslims as performative. Making him governor will allow him to harass innocent people over the way they worship God.

It’s pretty wild that the most rabidly anti-immigrant administration in recent memory is comprised of a President married to an immigrant, a VP married to the daughter of immigrants, an assistant AG in charge of Civil Rights who’s an immigrant (Dhillon), & it was all funded by an immigrant (Musk).

We don’t spend enough time discussing how the entire MAGA movement is kept afloat by the constant threats of stochastic terrorism orchestrated by the president of the United States. Congress, the courts, much of the media … all kept in line by the mob boss and his army of anonymous goons.

So I hate to be That Guy, but we're entering into uncertain territory here with the Epstein Files, and it's more important than ever that we make sure we know all the facts before we blow things up. I'm talking now about the "tips" that DOJ is now releasing. They sound super salacious and evil.

People must grasp the idea of “media capture.” It’s when authoritarian regimes and/or their powerful allies take control of media to stifle independent voices holding the government to account. It’s one way Hungary’s Viktor Orbán keeps power. In the U.S., it’s what the Ellisons have done with CBS.

Yes, it’s illegal. Like changing it to Department of War, like ten thousand other things. Part of the Trump strategy is to break the law and convey “the rule of law is weak and feminine and laughable and should be overridden by Our Guy.” Trump is fundamentally anti-law. /1

precious few of our national level leaders have acted as heroes this year. That has largely been a role foisted upon regular people to bear the burden of being courageous in the face of authoritarianism. Senator Van Hollen saving Kilmar’s life is an exception - a genuine act of heroism.

Intentionally killing innocent people is always wrong. Wherever in the world it happens. You might think everyone agrees with this simple moral principle, and yet far too many people, on far too many different sections of the political spectrum, try and make exceptions to it.
