This thread really sums up my difficulty with the theorists who argue meaning making through algorithmic analysis. It's an interesting thought experiment, but it fails to really grapple with the material conditions of commercial LLMs, especially how those LLMs are manipulated prior to going public

It's kind of insane to me that when I was in my 20's and even 30's, the right wing moral panic was that we millennials were too sexually active and it was destroying the world, and within less than 2 decades it's shifted to Gen Z being not sexually active is destroying the world.

This ruling is horrendous. According to the court, individuals with profound cognitive disabilities cannot be "deprived" of liberty because their disability limits their ability to experience freedom. This is dehumanising in the extreme.

The entire reason AI is being deployed in schools is to funnel money out of schools and into tech companies. Whatever reasons you've convinced yourself that AI edtech is necessary, regardless of how "useful" you think it is, it's sole purpose is to pad the pockets of the wealthy.
