We should try to find a hero fighting back against fascism in the US every day. Today, I'd nominate the FCC's Anna Gomez and, yes, Jerome Powell. A lot more courage than any elected Democrat this week (and I say that as someone who is very much NOT on the bash-the-Dems train.)

Curious if this is a one off, or did some other school superintendents come in from vacation and caved and gave them the data? We might know a lot less of what is going on in the shadows than we think.

I’m thinking today about all the women doing DEI work in universities, and how all of our canceled grants and shuttered initiatives means that not only are we losing the time we’ve already put in, we’re now even more behind our male peers who stayed focused on their research.

There is no such thing as an "AI" (or any other technology) without biases and values in it, but there very definitely is such a thing as presenting one's own biases and values as "neutral" and then forcing people to build "AI" which conforms to *those.*

There's the dishonesty in the marketing of public-facing AI too. Some do as they promised within specific contexts: i.e. identifying animals from thousands of camera trap/drone photos in conservation projects. But many promised to magically answer people's daily problems and that's a blatant lie.
