Early 30s, she/her, therapist, Unitarian Universalist. Officially too much of a bitch for Twitter.
pinned post!
So funny when people are filled with rage and consternation that consensus among mental health professionals supports trans people and transition care. Like you don't say, therapists are in favor of proactively changing the thing about your life that's making you miserable? Real head-scratcher.

Gotta be honest, a little weird seeing takes like "billionaires have gotten so powerful that they can rape kids and get away with it!!" Anyone can do that. Getting away with it is in the fact the norm for people who rape kids at all levels of income.

Anyone who had genuine concerns about youth gender medicine would staunchly and wholeheartedly support social transition. Let kids explore their identities to see what works for them! The fact that this movement opposes even pronouns and haircuts shows that it's just bigotry all the way down.

this bears repeating: Grok is bad because it's creating NONCONSENSUAL sexual images of real people. Not because sex is icky and should be scrubbed from the Internet. The distinction is crucial at a moment when dangerous censorship legislation is bipartisan and widely misunderstood

Ă lot of people are mean and miserable on social media because they can't figure out how to fix what's broken in their lives and have decided to lash out at strangers they feel particularly parasocial about. They won't ever realize that's what they're doing, but... I see it. đ

lifting this up. everything aside, "this story is old/the public already knows" is often used to kill pitches or stories when, in truth, the public *doesn't actually* know. one or two stories in an elite paper does not a public consciousness make. it's a constant winnowing of collective knowledge.

For my last Buying Power of the year, I wrote about one way to think about the divergence in consumer sentiment (bad) and behavior (free-spending) this year: Itâs the YOLO economy, typified by the expanding popularity of services like Klarna and Affirm. Gift link:

Here's a thread on how I talk to my patients about Large Language Models. As a therapist, I really hate the idea of anyone turning to ChatGPT for emotional support. I am also radically committed to meeting my patients where they're at instead of saying "Don't do that!" Here is what say.

As a therapist, I am so tired of trend pieces focusing on the minority of adult child/parent estrangements that don't involve unambiguous abuse, neglect, or addiction. Nearly no one goes no-contact with their functional, nonabusive parents over political differences or nebulous "poor boundaries."

Important đ§”! There's tons of research on this in school contexts (plus DV & cults as Sandy notes). The only programs that effectively address bullying 1) bolster community relationships & 2) provide explicit bystander training. Standing up to a bully/abuser runs counter to human survival instincts.
